Ryan Ng
VFX Supervisor
Ryan has worked at multiple award-winning visual effects studios and created effects for critically acclaimed titles. Including the films Shazam!, Monster Hunter, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark; as well as TV series The Expanse, The Boys, Vikings, and Mrs America.
“Storytelling”, “artistic” and “technical” are few ways to describe Ryan’s work. Before graduating with his BFA in Visual Effects from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Ryan started as a digital artist in Hong Kong. Ryan was able to explore different realms in the world of digital media productions- graphic design, music recording, video production, and sound design. Along the journey Ryan has acquired the key to telling stories through visuals, sounds, and tempo.
Later Ryan found his true passion in Visual Effects. He kicked off his professional career at SideFX Software, specializing in Effects (FX). Ryan received the Red Dot Award in 2017 for “Sonova”, an animated short that he co-directed and produced.
Ryan is a problem solver. He is one of the pioneers of WeFX pipeline development, heavily involved in the Houdini and FX workflow. The FX pipeline that Ryan established has allowed his brand new FX department to produce close to 400 FX simulation shots within the first year.
During the day, Ryan looks at two kinds of shots, VFX shots and Espresso shots. Coffee is one of his hobbies, so he takes his "shots'' seriously. Good VFX shots make good dailies, good espresso shots make Ryan’s day.
