Mohammad “Mo” Ghorbankarimi

From the start of his career in Tehran where he gained a foundation in classical animation and a B.A. in graphic design, Mo’s love of storytelling has led him down a path of directing commercial, film, and television productions and supervising visual effects for over 15 years.
He has directed commercials for international brands including Pepsi, Cadillac, Microsoft, and Nabisco, as well as music videos for Madonna, Usher, and K-OS.
In 2013, Mo wrote, produced, and directed The Desert Fish, his first feature film, an award-winning drama shot entirely in Iran. The film was officially selected at several major international film festivals, and received wide critical acclaim. In 2015, he wrote and directed his second dramatic screenplay, Journey, a $6M production, which received the Jury’s Special Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards and went on to be positively reviewed around the world.
As a VFX Supervisor, Mo has brought his special touch to features including David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016), Marc Forster’s Stranger Than Fiction (2006), Clark Johnson’s The Sentinel (2006), Chris Ver Wiel’s Who Is Cletis Tout? (2001), and, most recently, Doug Liman’s Chaos Walking (2019).
Mo’s television credits include Mrs. America (FX | HULU), Grand Army (Netflix), Doug Liman’s Impulse (YouTube Original), Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix), Hannibal (NBC), Marco Polo (Netflix), American Gothic (CBS), and the third season of the Duffer Brothers’ hit Netflix Original Series Stranger Things.
